Velika Planina has once again been adorned with its characteristic purple carpet of spring crocuses. This breathtaking bloom, lasting only a few weeks, attracts numerous visitors, photographers, hikers, and nature lovers each year. It is one of Slovenia\u2019s most beautiful natural spectacles and an excellent opportunity for a spring getaway into the mountains above the medieval town of Kamnik.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A visit during the crocus bloom is not only an unforgettable experience but also an opportunity to help preserve nature for future generations. Let our steps be gentle and mindful. Show respect for everything that lives, grows, and tells its story on the plateau.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to its natural beauty, Velika Planina offers insight into its rich herdsmen\u2019s heritage. A walk along the thematic educational trail In the Footsteps of the Herdsmen<\/em> introduces visitors to the life of shepherds on the plateau, as well as its flora, fauna, and cultural heritage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When to Visit<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

For the best experience, we recommend visiting during weekdays or early in the morning, as weekends are often very busy. The most stunning scenes can be enjoyed in the early morning, when dew-covered flowers create a magical landscape. If you plan to visit during the weekend, we advise arriving at the starting point before 9 a.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Access to Velika Planina<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The easiest and most sustainable way to reach Velika Planina is by cable car from Kamni\u0161ka Bistrica (Kamni\u0161ka Bistrica 2, 1242 Stahovica). From the upper station, you can continue on foot to the summit (45 minutes) or take the six-seater chairlift (7 minutes), which brings you to Gradi\u0161\u010de\u2014the highest point of Velika Planina. The cable car and chairlift operate according to the regular schedule and may run continuously during periods of high demand.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

CABLECAR PARKING AREA<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you choose to arrive by car, three designated parking areas are available. As the parking areas at U\u0161ivec and Ma\u010dkin kot are still partially covered with snow, winter equipment is mandatory. The road and parking area at Rakove ravni are completely clear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
