Traditional events

In order to make your stay on Velika planina even more interesting and variegated, we have organised numerous events, which are taking place during the winter time.

The most visited event is certainly the Midnight Service on Christmas Eve, which takes place in Snow Mary chapel, which is located in the herdsmen’s settlement, and attracts several thousands visitors every year. The visitors set off to the chapel by foot in the evening hours, carrying torches and lamps, which creates unique atmosphere in the winter idyll of the mountain.

There are also several events intended for the youngest visitors.

We recommend the visit of the following:

    December:

    • The Midnight Service in Snow Mary chapel, located in the herdsmen’s settlement (December 24th)
    • The arrival of the Santa Clause on Velika planina (December 28th and 29th)

  • February:

    • The Shrovetide skiing in the herdsmen’s settlement (organisation by PD Bajtar)
    • Herdsmen’s games in the herdsmen’s settlement (organisation by PD Bajtar)

  • March:

    • The competition of the doyen skiers for the Šinkel cup
