This year, we invite you to celebrate St. Martin’s Day a little differently – on Velika Planina, where an autumn hike can end with delicious homemade food and a glass of fine wine.

In Slovenia, St. Martin’s Day is celebrated on 11 November, when grape must is symbolically blessed and becomes wine. Families and friends gather for a traditional feast of roast goose or duck, served with braised red cabbage and mlinci — thin, baked flatbread softened in hot water and tossed in roasting juices. It’s a time to celebrate the autumn harvest, enjoy the season’s flavours and raise a glass of young wine together.

Over two November weekends, 7–8 and 14–15 November 2026, Zeleni Rob Restaurant will be serving a special St. Martin’s menu, bringing together traditional Slovenian flavours, local ingredients and seasonal autumn specialities.

As the cable car and chairlift will not be operating during this period due to annual maintenance, why not combine your visit to Zeleni Rob with a beautiful autumn hike? Several hiking trails lead up to Velika Planina, from shorter routes starting at Mačkin Kot and Ušivec to a longer ascent from Rakove Ravni. Check informations here.

What’s on the menu?

We’ll start with toasted bread topped with traditional Slovenian sausage and horseradish, followed by roasted duck breast with cranberry sauce, homemade mlinci (traditional Slovenian flatbread), and braised red cabbage.

To finish on a sweet note, we’ll serve our St. Martin’s štruklji with vanilla sauce and forest berries.

You can also complement your meal with a carefully selected wine pairing from Ščurek Winery in Slovenia’s Goriška Brda wine region.

Our special St. Martin’s menu will be available on 7–8 and 14–15 November 2026.

Reservations are available at 12:00, 14:00 and 17:00.

The lunchtime and early afternoon sittings are a lovely opportunity to combine your meal with an autumn hike on Velika Planina.

For guests staying overnight in one of the mountain cottages, we have also added a 17:00 dinner sitting, so you can enjoy a relaxed St. Martin’s meal without having to rush back down to the valley.
