You can also indulge in culinary delights at the Zeleni rob inn, which is known far and wide for its sweetest cottage cheese štruklji with fruit topping. In both summer and winter, the guest house has a terrace with sun loungers, which offers a beautiful view of the Kamnik Savinja Alps and the Ljubljana Basin.

The cable car to Velika planina has been taking passengers since 1964. The cable car takes you to the mountain in just five minutes, and you can continue on foot (30 minutes to the Zeleni rob inn, 45 minutes to the shepherd’s settlement) or take the chairlift to the top.

What about when the shepherds leave the mountain?

Velika planina is always a great choice to visit. In the autumn months, it is great for hiking and biking, as there are not too many visitors. When it is foggy in the valley, the sun and pleasant temperatures abound on Velika planina.

In winter, the white slopes are great for skiing and sledding, and the idyll of the shepherd’s village invites you to take a walk among the snowy roofs. In the winter season, night sledding is popular, taking place between Thursday and Sunday, along a 2.4-kilometer-long, lighted trail. The ski resort is popular among families, as the pistes are not demanding. The Jurček children’s ski lift, the Zeleni rob ski lift and the Šimnovec chairlift are in operation.

Spring, of course, is a time when nature comes to life again. The snow is falling, and the harbingers of spring are peeping on the day. Among them is also saffron, and the mountain is thus transformed into a beautiful purple color. Velika planina becomes a paradise for photographers and lovers of the first spring temperatures in the early spring days. With a sufficient amount of snow, cross-country ski trails are also arranged along Velika planina.
